The autopsy results for the woman who accused Rep. Carnevale of sexual assault have been released by the Department of Health. Anne Marie Beardsworth, Spokeswoman for the Department of Health, said that the state medical examiners office reports that she died of massive pulmonary embolism.
The autopsy was performed on Wednesday, the day the woman was scheduled to be buried. The DOH would not say who ordered the autopsy.
A pulmonary embolism is a blockage of arteries in the lungs, explains Beardsworth. It is one of the leading causes of sudden death right behind having a heart attack.
With the woman passing it is unclear whether the case will proceed. The Attorney Generals office says the status of the case has not changed.
Carnevale pled not guilty to the charges that said he assaulted the woman at her apartment in July.
