A disbarred attorney from Pawtucket will be spending time in the federal penitentiary after his role in a $1.1 million mortgage fraud scheme.
James Levitt, 66, has been sentenced to a year behind bars, fined $25,000 and ordered to pay $610,500 in restitution, federal prosecutors told the Associated Press.
In February Levitt pled guilty to three counts of bank fraud and two counts of filing false tax returns.
Using the fraudulent information Levitt applied for and received three mortgages. The mortgages totaling $1.1 million were used to purchase a property in East Providence and one in Providence.
Federal prosecutors said Levitt conducted closings on the properties despite his own financial interests.
