Police Chief was at Chafee Exeter property, saw no drinking

The plot thickens, according to the Providence Journal, Barrington Police Chief John LaCross was also on scene during a teen drinking incident at the Chafee Exeter property.

LaCross, was on the Exeter compound owned by Governor Lincoln Chafee visiting Steven Hourahan, a Senior Advisor to the Governor who lives on the property.

LaCross said he did not witness any teen drinking while he was there and he was briefly introduced to Caleb Chafee who the Chief said did not appear intoxicated. LaCross said he saw other teens join Caleb by the pool but none appeared to be intoxicated.

The teens however were indeed drinking according to a State Police report obtained exclusively by WPRO's Matt Allen. One 18-year-old girl at the gathering ended up getting sick from drinking too much and Caleb Chafee asked her and her friends to leave the property. He advised the girls to not call for rescue until they were off his property. When State Police went to investigate Caleb Chafee obtained and attorney and invoked his Fifth Amendment rights, most of the other teens at the party did the same.

LaCross told the Providence Journal, "What's disappointing about the whole thing is, what message is being sent to teens in Rhode Island?" LaCross said. "What responsibility are they learning to plead the Fifth?"
