State police want you to stay safe this Fourth of July.

Rhode Island officers are warning everyone that their will be an increase in patrols on Block Island this summer. There is also a new ordinance prohibiting open or closed alcohol containers on state and town beaches.

State Police Superintendent Steven O’Donnell says that more than 2,500 teenagers and young adults went to Block Island last Fourth of July and the high amount of alcohol consumption and beach abuse was overwhelming for police. So O’Donnell says the police presence will double for the summer.
