The holiday week is not starting off well for Rhode Island State Police after a first fatality has taken place early Tuesday morning on the day before the Fourth of July.
Unfortunately things did not start off well today. We have investigated an accident on route 37 onto 295 that resulted in a fatality already so we didnt start off well but we are certainly planning to have extra patrols on the road, Captain Frank Castellone of the Rhode Island State Police told the WPRO Morning News with Tara Granahan and Andrew Gobeil. The accident happened around 5:45 a.m. on Tuesday leaving a 25-year-old female dead.
Witnesses stated that the vehicle was travelling at a high rate of speed left the road way and rolled into the grassy shoulder of the roadway, said Captain Quarry of the Rhode Island State Police.
The driver was the only passenger in the vehicle at the time. The lone occupant of the vehicle was trapped under the vehicle. Cranston Rescue personnel arrived they were able to extract the occupant at some point. She was seat belted in but partially ejected and pronounced dead at the scene, said Quarry.
