Congressman Jim Langevin officially kicked off his campaign for re-election on Tuesday and this time the Congressman said the election is all about jobs and the economy.
Jobs and economy has to be the primary focus of this election. It is what is on peoples minds and until we turn the economy around, we have people back to work and people know they are secure in their homes, they got a pay check coming in. thats all that matters at this point, said Langevin.
Langevin said as sitting congressman he has been fighting to get the economy on track and he wants to continue his efforts. These are challenging times, of course, and we got our work cut out for us but this isnt the time to quit. It is about looking forward; it is about looking forward it is about fighting for the people of Rhode Island as I always have. We got to work hard to get this economy back on track, get people back to work and I am up to the challenge and I am going to continue the fight.
Langevin was elected to Congress in 2001 prior to serving as the Rhode Island Secretary of State. He currently sits on the Committee on Armed Services and the Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence.
If given another two-year term, Langevin promised to work diligently until Rhode Island families feel better about the future. I understand that people are unhappy with the direction of things we talk about, you know the unemployment rate is still very high and people are uncertain about the future and I want to reassure people that I am trying to leave no stone unturned that the economy is my top priority, that we are going to get people back to work and that is what I am focused on.
Langevin will face John Matson in a Democratic primary in September. In addtion, Four Republicans, Mike Gardiner, Mike Riley, Kara Russo, and Donald Robbio are vying for the seat as well as Independent Abel Collins.Dee DeQuattro | WPRO News
