Providence Mayor Angel Taveras is not denying the possibility that he will mount a run for Governor in 2014.

“Next year we will have an opportunity to think about it,” Taveras told the WPRO Morning News with Tara Granahan and Andrew Gobeil when asked if he is planning a run for governor in 2014.

Taveras indicated that a lot of people have suggested the idea. “I have had a lot of people who I don’t know if said that because they like me or not,” said Taveras. “It’s always nice to have people who think you are doing a good job and want you to do something in the future.”

Ultimately, for now, Taveras says his focus will remain on the city of Providence.

“Right now the focus needs to be on the city and we will have time enough to make decisions in the future,” said Taveras.

Other candidates that are being discussed as early favorites to run for governor in 2014 include General Treasurer Gina Raimondo, former Republican Gubernatorial Candidate John Robitaille, and Ernie Almonte, Rhode Island’s former auditor general, who has already announced his candidacy.
