North Smithfield Police are now offering a $1,000 reward for anyone with information that will lead to the arrest of the person who vandalized a sign at a local Muslim temple.

The sign for Masjid al-Islam was vandalized by a person around 3:30 a.m. on Sunday. The suspect approached the sign head butted it and then broke it.

The vandalism took place the same day of the shooting at the Sikh temple in Wisconsin. Out of safety concerns members of the mosque have asked police and the FBI for additional protection suggesting the vandalism may be a result of a larger pattern of crime against Muslims.

The FBI and state police are involved in the investigation.

I'll help narrow down the suspect list. Look for a zealous Christian. They like to damage stuff that they can’t understand and fear.
