Unemployment numbers for the state of Rhode Island inched down for the third month in a row but the state continues to shed jobs.
It is the third consecutive month where we have gone down which is obviously some good news, the rate is still very high however, still one of the higher states, but the trend is down, we have not been this low since May of 2009 so thats some good news we also have the number of unemployed residents down as well, said Charlie Fogarty, Director of the Department of Labor and Training. On the negative side however the number of Rhode Island based jobs based on this survey is down and obviously that is a concern because we need to have the jobs out there if people are going to get back into the employment field.
According to Julys unemployment numbers, unemployment is down a tenth of a percent from Junes 10.9% to 10.8%. This is a significant drop from July 2011 when unemployment was 11.4%.
In the past month the state shed over 1,000 jobs with significant loses in the Health Care & Social Assistance industry. Fogarty said the job losses in Rhode Island since the beginning of the recession have been significant and it will take the state a while to recover. We have lost almost 40,000 jobs since this recession began and thats the biggest job loss since back in the early 70s when we had the navy pull out and it took us eight year to get out of that situation, to get back to those numbers, so it is going to be a while.
Rhode Island has over 7,000 less jobs than it had 1 year ago.

My two daughters are headed out of state (Mass & NY) for college with no plans to LOOK BACK !! Their cousin's have done the same as well. Soon your legacy will be Refuge state for Illegal Aliens who will not be ABLE to work (no Legal Social Security #). Whom i feel bad for is the Older Generation that is trapped here, unable to move do to age and/or Finances. When I sell my home and move out, I like my Children will put Rhode Island in the Rear View Mirror. I hope that the great John Chaffee (1922-1999) judges you based on PERFORMANCE and not Blood-line. |

(8/17/2012 4:19:10 PM) Gump fiddles while RI burns !! While no Elected Official "creates" any jobs, what they create is a "Environment" that encourage's & promote's business growth.. The first issues in his Inaugrual Address concerned Making Life easy for Illegal Aliens & Gay Marriage saying "Mark my words, these two actions will do more for economic growth in our state that any economic development loan." Gov Chaffee how is that working out ?? Then you RAISE taxes on various items and services (Hmm good for business ??). Please do us a favor and go back to shoeing horses or becoming a Professor at Montana State University teaching horseshoeing. Then the ADULTS can take over running the State. You ran on your Fathers good name, may he be ashamed at your performance.. |

(8/17/2012 1:54:15 PM) The RI DEmocrats and the unions have sealed the fate of the working class in RI. We don't stand a chance here. Get out while you can. There are states who actually care about the working class, they are called right to work states. Your rights are actually protected. Unions take you basic rights away from the get go. The politicians who support them are as corrupt as the union membership and as guilty of crimes against the working class. |

(8/17/2012 10:50:59 AM) .6% decresse in a year is significant? Are you serious? We've been in a slump in excess of four years, jobs are leving every month and we are to be patinet for more years to come? We need leaders! Not cronies-there was a reason people chose not to elect Charlie Fogarty to the Governors office, he is incompenent and certainly proving it now with no leadership or prodding of the Governor or legislature to change the climate. They all get excited because it drops.1% -How real is even that #? |
