Smokey, Sinbad and more in Portsmouth: Singer and Rhode Island native Jeffery Osborne hosted the inaugural, “Jeffrey Osborne Celebrity Classic” golf tournament at Carnegie Abbey Club in Portsmouth.  Osborne invited some of his famous celebrity friends to raise hopes and funds for non-profit organizations like Amos House, Boys & Girls Clubs of Providence, the MET Center and the Rhode Island Philharmonic Orchestra & Music School.  The two-day event  attracted celebs like comedian Sinbad, Magic Johnson, Smokey Robinson, Peabo Bryson, Boston Celtics Coach Doc Rivers and former Celtics star John Havlicek, Miami Heat President Pat Riley and former Boston Red Sox pitcher Dennis "Oil Can" Boyd. 

Lights, Camera…Canobie Lake:  A Hollywood film crew recently visited Canobie Lake Park in Salem, New Hampshire, to shoot a scene for the upcoming Jason Reitman film, Labor Day.  The movie crew had been shooting parts of the film nearby in Massachusetts and the script called for a scene featuring two of the principal characters in an amusement park setting, specifically riding "tea-cups." Academy Award-winning actress Kate Winslet and award-winning actor Josh Brolin were the focus of the scene.

"Our team worked with the production coordinator to ensure that their experience filming in our great state of New Hampshire was smooth and seamless," said Chris Nicoli, Canobie’s Marketing and Entertainment Manager. "Canobie Lake Park has been used as a location in other film and television productions over the years, both as a setting and as a featured subject. In this case, we were able to accommodate a major motion picture company that needed just the right look of a classic family amusement Park for the scene."

Two, “Stars” in Newport:  According to the Newport Buzz Actress Mena Suvari returned to the City by the Sea that she grew up in.  Suvari, perhaps best known for her roles in the, “American Pie” series and “American Beauty” was visiting family and friends in Newport.  The Newport Buzz also reported that former View host Star Jones was spotted in the city tweeting, “Having a great time!
