Relatives and friends of three Maine residents found dead inside a burning car in Bangor last week say the victims were at a small gathering before their deaths and left in a white Pontiac with Rhode Island plates.

They tell the Bangor Daily News that the car was driven by an out-of-state man who comes to Maine on occasion, always in a rental car.

That man's name has not been publicly disclosed and he has not been charged with a crime.

Authorities have identified the victims as 26-year-old Daniel Thomas Borders of Hermon; 24-year-old Nicolle Ashley Lugdon of Eddington, and 28-year-old Lucas Alan Tuscano of Bradford. Their deaths have been ruled homicides.

The exact cause of death has not been made public.
