FORECLOSURE   FALLOUT...............Prez Obama is loosening refinancing restrictions for many borrowers and providing incentives for lenders in hopes that the two sides will work together to modify loans. The government support to mortgage giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac is being doubled to 400-billion as part of an effort to encourage them to refinance loans that are now "under water" meaning someone whose paying off a mortgage on a house they financed at 300-grand is now valued at half that amount. Does it suck that those of us who make our payments on time and scraped and saved and sacrificed to make sure we could be responsible homeowners have to foot the bill for those who knowingly took on more than they could afford? Of course it does but that's simplistic thinking designed to get phones ringing on talk shows. We need to address and solve the problem that caused this horrific downward spiral and that's the housing debacle no matter how bitter the pill is to swallow.............

PAUSE  IN  PAWTUCKET............Things are so bad in my old stomping grounds that the Mayor in the Bucket says his city could run out of dough by mid-April. Mayor James Boyle admits the city's now on the verge of bankruptcy but he is planning on the perfect storm scenario. The grim contingencies include closing City Hall a day or two a week, a 5-day furlough carried out over time by having employees leave early on Fridays and selling the Dennis Lynch Hockey rink  (I never played well there anyway).......................................................................................................................

MONKEY   BUSINESS.............After letting all the coverage of that chimp gone beserk sink in, I've come away with the following conclusion; I feel bad for Travis the chimp. The more you learn about the hammerhead who raised this poor creature as a domestic pet, the more badly you feel for the chimp. Here's a newsflash, a chimpanzee is an exotic, unpredictable animal. Sure, Lancelot Link was a cool show and SNL's "I Married a Monkey" was a hoot, but after the shoot (no pun intended, Travis) the chimps were undressed and caged..........................................................................................

NOTE  TO  SELF.........forget about that pet chimp purchase

KUDOS  TO  WPRI/FOX 64.......................for scheduling MORE local programming at a time broadcasters everywhere are bailing on local stuff to save dough.  FOX 64's much ballyhooed "The Road Show" made its debut  Wednesday at 8am. I didn't get to see much of the show (busy making Hiz Honah's coffee, shining his shoes and walking Rico) so I can't comment on it other to say I've liked Elizabeth Hopkins work since she arrived in the market. I for one hope for the show's success as a sign you can still  invest in local programming.......................................................................................
